When Bill Kelly was just 17 years old he enlisted in the Marine Corps. The picture below was taken in 1945 during World War II.
Bill was called back to action in for the Korean War. He was was injured in Korea and sent back to Camp Otsu in Japan until he was honorably discharged due to his injury. The pictures below were taken during that time about 1950 -51
A few years after leaving the Marines Bill and Gerry met while working at Montgomery Wards and the rest is history...

My favorite story about Belport Furniture is how he convinced the owner of the building to sell him the building when he was just renting the first floor. He kept asking the owner and she would always respond the same way with a no I'm not ready to sell. Well, my Grandpa Wally was a clever man. He would brew a stinky brew of only God know what just below the vent that went up to her floor so the aroma would stink up the building. He did this day after day, finally he called down the owner of the building and brought her over to his long upolstery table which was covered with a large pile of money. He had gotten what he was willing to pay for the building in small bills in cash and piled it up on the table. When the owner saw all this money she quickly jumped at the chance at selling the building. Smart man!
